STEM Methodology

Deeksha STEM Schools strive to redefine learning by putting in place STEM pedagogical innovations which include Enquiry-Based Learning, Experiential Science Learning, and Learning by Design and Communication Proficiency Development.

These are the modalities to develop the critical 4 Cs in students i.e., Critical thinking, Creativity, Communication skills, and Content knowledge. STEM education is crucial for the 21st century because it equips students with the skills, knowledge, and mindset necessary to thrive in an increasingly complex and technology-driven world. STEM education prepares students to understand and navigate this changing landscape, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and innovation.

Core knowledge in each subject is transferred through interactive instructions in a classroom environment that encourages questions and curiosity. Skills such as communication, presentation, teamwork, and media literacy are honed through periodic collaborative projects. Finally, an aptitude for working with one’s hands and making and building is developed through design challenges.

STEM vs Traditional Education

Traditional STEM
Didactic instruction and Information sharing by the teacher Access information from multiple sources
Students learn by rote  Students Analyze information and actively interpret it—experiment by trial and error.
Assessments that reward rote learning Holistic assessments that gauge the overall assimilation of concepts and the ability to apply them
Grades determine success Reflect on outcomes
Cram the information as presented  Revise, modify, apply and conclude
Inflexible curriculum with subjects taught in silo  Flexible interdisciplinary curriculum
Predominantly lecture-based  Hands-on, enquiry-based
Limited use of technology  Optimal integration of technology

Pillars of STEM

We ensure every Deeksha child has

C H A R I S M A

C : Confidence

Confidence

“When you have confidence, you can have a lot of fun. And when you have fun, you can do amazing things.” Joe Namath

Self-confidence helps children believe in their competence and abilities. When they become adults, they will be empowered to overcome fears and obstacles to achieve their goals. This boosts their overall well-being and performance.

H: Hands-on learning

Hands-on learning

“For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.” Aristotle,

Hands-on learning allows children to experiment by trial and error, learn from their mistakes, and become life-long learners. Children learn better when they can immerse themselves and relate to a subject when it provides direct and practical experience.

A: Analytical Thinking

Analytical Thinking

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.”—Albert Einstein

Analytical thinking is a crucial part of mental growth which enables children to solve problems quickly and effectively – becoming efficient decision-makers in life. This skill guides children to gather, understand, organize, visualize, and evaluate the given information and manage it successfully. Analytical thinking is dependent on curiosity.

R: Respect

Respect

“Respect for ourselves guides our morals and respect for others guides our manners” – Laurence Sterne

Being “respectful” is not just a behavior that we ought to display to specific people.  Respect is a feeling or emotion that we should have toward everyone/everything around us. It is an inner trait that goes beyond and has to be inculcated in children from their formative years – an endeavor that is adopted sincerely at Deeksha STEM Schools.

I: Inquisitive

Inquisitive

“Curiosity is the beginning of wisdom.”  Francoise Sagan

Curiosity is an essential component in the learning journey of children, which drives them to learn new things and discover how things work around them. Children are born explorers and naturally inquisitive. Deeksha STEM Schools is cognizant of this fact, ensuring development of this resource.

S: Sportive

Sportive

“I have failed over and over in my life… That is why I have succeeded!” – Michael Jordan

Sports develop the physical and mental strength in children. Deeksha encourages playing sports as it is the best way to take a break from academics and release suppressed energy. It also helps children lead fuller lives as regular sports and fitness activities have proven to offer not only physical but also social and psychological benefits.

M: Mindful

Mindful

“Our life is shaped by our mind, for we become what we think” – Gautam Buddha

Mindfulness, also known as focused awareness, is a crucial skill for children. It helps them improve their abilities to pay attention, understand emotional regulation, enhance overall focus, and make better decisions. Being mindful also includes the fact that we are aware of our surroundings and our behavior reflects sensitivity towards it.

A: Articulate

Articulate

“A society is made or destroyed by its articulate voices” – Ayn Rand

Articulation in children has always been considered as a priority in their entire learning process. At Deeksha STEM Schools, children are trained to become efficient in various styles of communication. The aim is to help children become clear, convincing, coherent, and respectful in their speech and writing.
